Reaction Steps

Amine preparation: a mixture of 1-BOC-piperazine (387 mg), 2-chloro-N,N-dimethylacetamide (0.43 mL) and triethylamine (0.58 mL) in chloroform was stirred at room temperature. After stirring overnight the reaction mixture was diluted with DCM, washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and the solvent removed in vacuo to yield 4-dimethylcarbamoylmethyl-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (558 mg). Treatment of this compound with HCl in DCM/MeOH yielded the desired compound, which was isolated as the hydrochloride salt.
