Reaction Steps

A mixture of (±)-ethyl methyl 2,2′-(4-nitro-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole-1,3-diyl)diacetate from Step C (550 mg, 1.7 mmol) and 10% Pd/C (40 mg) in EtOH (10 mL) was stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen (ca. 1 atm). After 3 h, the reaction was filtered through a Celite pad and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound. MS: m/z=293 (M+1).
