Procedure

A mixture of benzyl 2-(5-fluoro-2-pyridyloxy)-2-methylpropionate (2.6 g, 9.2 mmol) and 10% palladium on carbon (0.26 mg) in 20 mL MeOH was degassed and filled with hydrogen using a balloon. After stirring at room temperature for 3 h, the reaction mixture was filtered through CELITE diatomaceous earth and washed with MeOH (20 mL), and the filtrate was concentrated to dryness to give the title compound. 1H NMR (500 MHz, CD3OD): δ 7.91 (d, 1H), 7.48 (ddd, 1H), 6.78 (dd, 1H), 1.65 (s, 6H). LC-MS: m/e 200 (M+H)+ (2.6 min).
