Procedure

A mixture of 2-[4-(2-methoxyethoxy)phenyl]-6-propoxyimidazo[1,2-b]pyridazine (327 mg, 1 mmol), paraformaldehyde (200 mg, 6.65 mmol), aqueous dimethylamine (40% w/v, 1.0 mL, 8.5 mmol) and acetic acid (3 mL) was heated at 120° for 22 hours. The mixture was cooled and concentrated. The residue was dissolved in chloroform and extracted thrice with dilute (10%) hydrochloric acid. The combined extracts were basified with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (25%), the resulting suspension chilled in ice and filtered by suction. The collected solid was washed twice with water and dried at the pump to provide Compound 98 (75 mg) as a beige solid. 1H n.m.r.
