Procedure
To a solution of methyl 5-(5-chlorothiophen-2-yl)oxazol-4-carboxylate (12.6 g) in methanol (150 ml) was added 4N hydrogen chloride-dioxane solution (100 ml) under argon atmosphere, and the mixture was stirred at 70° C. for overnight. The reaction mixture was cooled and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure, and the resulting residue was triturated with acetone to obtain methyl 2-amino-3-(5-chlorothiophen-2-yl)-3-oxo-propionate hydrochloride (13.9 g) as colorless powder.
