Reaction Steps

To a cooled (0° C.) solution of (R)-tert-butyl 3-oxo-tetrahydro-1H-oxazolo[3,4-a]pyrazine-7(3H)-carboxylate (3.01 g, 12 mmol) in 100 mL CH2Cl2 was added TFA (75 mL, 973 mmol) dropwise. After 2 h the reaction mixture was concentrated to dryness to give a brown semi-crystalline solid, which was purified through a plug of silica gel eluting successively with hexane, Et2O, CH2Cl2 and 10% 2M NH3 in MeOH/CH2Cl2 to give 2.29 g of an orange oil. MS m/z: 143.1 [M+1].
