Reaction Steps
A mixture of 15 g of phytol, 11 g of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and 0.1 g of cuprous chloride was stirred at 90°-100° C. for two hours under nitrogen, to which 16 g of oleic acid was added, followed by further two hours' stirring at 90°-100° C. After cooling, the reaction mixture was added with 100 ml of n-hexane, freed from any insoluble matters through filtration and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to silica gel chromatography to yield 12.6 g of isophytyl oleate from the first eluting fraction and 5.9 g of phytyl oleate from the latter eluting fraction. Physical constants for phytyl oleate are as follows.
