Benzene → Nitrobenzene
Reaction equation
[N+:1]([O-:4])(O)=[O:2].S(=O)(=O)(O)O.O.[CH:11]1[CH:16]=[CH:15][CH:14]=[CH:13][CH:12]=1>>[N+:1]([C:11]1[CH:16]=[CH:15][CH:14]=[CH:13][CH:12]=1)([O-:4])=[O:2]Participants

Procedure
The reaction Was carried out in the same reactor as that described above in Examples 3 and 4 which are representative of the present invention. Benzene in 7% stoichiometric excess is metered into a nitrating acid consisting of 2.3 wt. % of nitric acid, 68.0 wt. % of sulfuric acid and 29.7 wt. % of water. The amount of benzene was chosen so as to give a space-time yield of nitrobenzene of 4.3 t/m3h, based on the reactor volume. The mixture obtained was introduced into a reactor at a start temperature of 99.8° C. After 13.4 vol. % of the reaction space, the temperature of the reaction mixture was 113.6° C. The reaction end temperature was 123.6° C.
