Procedure

A suspension of 4 (5 g, 0.018 mol), EtOH (250 ml) and 10% Pd/C (1.7 g) was hydrogenated on a Parr shaker at 50 psi. After shaking overnight, the suspension was filtered under N2 through a super cel pad. The solution was concentrated to dryness to yield 3.2 g (94%) of 5. An analytical sample was prepared by crystallization from CH3CN; m.p. 212°-214° C.
