Procedure
4-[(4-Chlorophenyl)methyl]-6,7-dihydro-3H-imidazo-[1,2-a]purin -9(4H)-one (Procedure 3), 6.02 g. (0.02 mole), is dissolved with warming in a mixture of 100 ml. of water and 15 ml. of ethanol containing 1.0 g. (0.25 mole) of sodium hydroxide. Approximately 3 ml. (approximately a molar equivalent) of methyl iodide was added and the mixture was stirred for about 48 hrs. at room temperature. The precipitated solid was collected, air dried, and recrystallized from isopropanol, m.p. 182.5°-184.5°.
