Procedure
To a stirred solution of the nitroso compound of Procedure 87 (0.1 mol) in 200 ml. formic acid, sodium dithionite (0.25 mol) is added portionwise. After one hour, the reaction mixture is concentrated in vacuo, the residue dissolved in water and filtered. The filtrate is made basic with concentrated aqueous ammonia, and the product collected.
