Procedure
A mixture of 5 g of 5-aminotetrazole, 46.7 g of triethoxymethane, 10.5 g of methyl anthranilate and 105 ml of hexane was heated at reflux under nitrogen for 48 hours. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and the white crystalline product was separated by filtration, washed with hexane and vacuum oven dried to give product containing traces of methyl anthranilate. This was triturated with additional hexane, followed by filtration and drying to give pure N1 -(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)-N2 -(2-carbomethoxyphenyl)formamidine.
