A mixture of ethyl 4-[(5,6-dimethyl-8-nitrotetraazolo[1,5-a]pyridin-7-yl)amino]butanoate (10.0 g, 31.0 mmol), 10% palladium on carbon (1.0 g), and acetonitrile (310 mL) was added to a pressure vessel, and the reaction was placed under hydrogen pressure (30 psi, 2.1×105 Pa) overnight. The reaction mixture was filtered through a layer of CELITE filter agent, and the filter cake was washed with methanol (50 mL). The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to provide ethyl 4-[(8-amino-5,6-dimethyltetraazolo[1,5-a]pyridin-7-yl)amino]butanoate as a solid. This reaction was repeated a second time.
