A suspension of 5% platinum on carbon (0.80 g) and ethyl l-{[(3-nitroquinolin-4-yl)amino]methyl}cyclopropanecarboxylate (8.0 g, 25 mmol) in ethyl acetate was placed under hydrogen pressure (30 psi, 2.1×105 Pa) on a Parr apparatus for three hours and filtered through a layer of CELITE filter agent. The filter cake was washed with ethyl acetate (50 mL), and the combined filtrates were concentrated under reduced pressure to provide ethyl 1-{[(3-aminoquinolin-4-yl)amino]methyl}cyclopropanecarboxylate as a yellow solid.
