Procedure

A mixture of (2Z)-3-pentyl-3,7-dihydro-1H-purine-2,6-dione 2-hydrazone (3.1 g, 0.013 mol) and triethyl orthoacetate (20 mL, 0.1 mol) was heated at 100° C. for 3 h. The suspension was cooled to room temperature and the solid formed was filtered and washed with DCM/Hex (1:1) mixture to provide the desired product (3.1 g, 91% yield). LCMS calculated for C12H17N6O (M+H): 261.1. Found: 261.1.
