A solution of (2e)-3-pentyl-3,7-dihydro-1h-purine-2,6-dione 2-hydrazone (1.90 g, 8.04 mmol) and carbon disulfide (0.58 ml, 9.64 mmol) in pyridine (30 ml) was stirred at 60° C. for 3 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the solid formed was filtered and dried to yield the desired product (1.90 g, 84.9%). LCMS calculated for: C11H14N6OS (M+H) 280.1. Found: 280.1.
