A solution of 2-chloro-4-isopropyl-5,8-dimethylquinoline (1.00 g, 4.3 mmol) in NH2NH2 was reacted as outlined in Scheme 1 above to give the title compound. Spectroscopic data: 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 1.30 (d, J=6.74 Hz, 6 H) 2.64 (s, 3 H) 2.82 (s, 3 H) 3.95-4.10 (m, 1 H) 6.72 (s, 1 H) 6.98 (d, J=7.33 Hz, 1 H) 7.30 (d, J=7.33 Hz, 1 H).
