Procedure

A sample of 38.6 g of 1-methyl-2-propyl-3,5-diethyl 1,2-dihydropyridine was added to a mixture of 12 grams of acetic acid and 26 grams of water. The mixture was stirred and air was introduced for 18 hours. The resulting aqueous phase was evaporated under diminished pressure to yield 48.2 grams of 1-methyl-2-propyl-3,5 diethylpyridinium acetate, identical to the product described in example 1.
