To a solution of 2-acetylnicotinic acid (0.40 g, 2.4 mmol) in 7 ml of methanol is added a solution of 4-phenylsemicarbazide (0.37 g, 2.4 mmol) in 5 ml of methanol. The mixture is stirred at RT overnight, after which the solid precipitate is collected by filtration, washed with ethanol and dried to give 2-acetylnicotinic acid 4-phenylsemicarbazone, m.p. 174° (dec.) (compound 1, Table A).
