Reaction Steps

To a solution of 5-Bromo-4-hydroxy-4′-trifluoromethyl-biphenyl-3-carboxylic acid methylester (0.3 g, 0.8 mmol) in toluene (5 mL) was added phenylboronic acid (0.19 g, 1.6 mmol), tetrakistriphenylphosphine (0.0.09 g, 0.08 mmol), Na2CO3(2.4 ml, 1N solution) and stirred the reaction mixture at 80° C. for 10 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with EtOAc (10 mL) and washed with water, brine and dried over Na2SO4. Solvent was removed under reduced pressure and silicagel column chromatography (20:80 EtOAc:hexane) gave pure 4′-Hydroxy-4-trifluoromethyl-[1,1′;3′,1″]terphenyl-5′-carboxylic acid methyl ester (0.21 g).
