A mixture of (6Z)-2-chloro-9-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-1,9-dihydro-6H-purin-6-one hydrazone [which is a tautomeric form of 2-chloro-6-hydrazino-9-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-9H-purine; 0.1 g, 0.5 mmol] and ethyl orthoformate (3 g, 20 mmol) was stirred at 98° C. for 12 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to provide the product. LCMS calculated for C11H12ClN6O (M+H): 279.1; found: 279.0.
