t-Butyl 2-(5-ethyl-2-[2-(4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]-4-oxo-4H-pyrimidin-1-yl)acetate (Int B51) (1 g) was dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid (10 ml) and stirred for 3 h at room temperature. The solution was concentrated under vacuum to a foam. Trituration with ether afforded the title compound as a colourless solid, (0.783 g, 93%), 1H-NMR (DMSO) δ 1.05 (3H, t, J=7.5Hz), 2.24 (2H, q, J=7.5 Hz), 2.79 (2H, m), 2.93 (2H, m), 4.79 (2H, s), 7.11 (2H, m), 7.30 (2H, m), 7.53 (1H, s) and 12.48 (1H, br. s). (APCI−) Found (M−1)=303, C16H17FN2O3 requires 304.
