Reaction Steps

A solution of 64.0 g (0.19 mol) of the benzylether VIII in 500 ml of THF was hydrogenated (3.5 bar) over 7.0 g of 20% Pd(OH)2/C for 30 min at ambient temperature. The catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated to afford alcohol IX as colorless oil (46.9 g, 100%). Rf=0.33 (SiO2, 1:1 heptane-TBME).
