Procedure
A mixture of N-(19-carboxynonadecyl)maleamic acid (500 mg, 1.22 mmoles), 3.44 ml of acetic anhydride and anhydrous sodium acetate (50.1 mg, 0.61 mmole) was reacted for 1 hour at 100° C. After the completion of reaction, the reaction mixture was treated in the same manner as in Example 1, to give 20-maleimidoeicosanoic acid (230 mg, 46%) having the following properties.
