To a solution of 6,7-dimethoxy-1-(3-methoxybenzyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-8-ol (350 mg, 1.06 mole) in dichloromethane (11 ml) was added methyl isocyanate (69 μl, 1.17 mole) at room temperature under an argon atmosphere, and the reaction mixture was stirred for 3.5 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel/chloroform:methanol=20:l) to give the desired compound (410 mg) as a colorless powder.
