Reaction Steps
A mixture of 3-(4-acetoxy-3,5-diisopropylbenzamido)-4-(2-chlorophenyl)-6,8-dimethylquinoline (600 mg), methanol (40 ml) and 1N-sodium hydroxide (4 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. After concentrating, the mixture was diluted with water and made acidic with 2N-hydrochloric acid. Thereafter, the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with water and dried (MgSO4). The solvent was removed and the residue was recrystallized from acetone-isopropyl ether to give 4-(2-chlorophenyl)-3-(4-hydroxy-3,5-diisopropyl benzamido)-6,8-dimethylquinoline (494 mg, 89.5%) as colorless prisms.
