Reaction Steps

5.1 g (13-9mmol) of the title compound of Example 5 (h) is dissolved under nitrogen in 50 ml of dioxane. To this mixture is added 6.24 g (55.6 mmol) of potassium tert-butylate, and the mixture is refluxed overnight, evaporated to dryness, taken up in 50 ml of water, and extracted 4 times with 100 ml of hot toluene. The combined toluene phases are dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated under vacuum. The residue is purified by chromatography (silica gel/methanol/water/ammonia (aq. 33%) =10/1/1).
