Procedure
A solution of sodium hydroxide (3.7 g) in water (30 ml) was added to a suspension of 2-(3-benzoylthioureido)-4-(6-propionylaminomethylpyridin-2-yl)thiazole (16.5 g) in methanol (300 ml) at room temperature. The mixture was heated at 60° C. for 4.5 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in water (200 ml). The mixture was neutralized with 6N hydrochloric acid. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration to afford 4-(6-propionylaminomethylpyridin-2-yl)-2-thioureidothiazole (14.67 g).
