Procedure

A mixture of 4-(4-chloro-benzylamino)-benzoic acid tert-butyl ester (6 g, 6.3 mmol), phenylsulfonylchloride (2.9 ml, 21 mmol) and pyridine (1.86 mL, 23 mmol) in dichloromethane (25 mL) was heated to reflux for 16 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, diluted with dichloromethane (25 ml) and washed with water (2×25 ml). The organics were collected, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to afford a yellow oil which was purified by flash chromatography (hexanes/ethyl acetate 9:1) to afford the title compound as a white solid (2.2 g, 76% yield). HPLC retention time 8.54 min.
