Reaction Steps
A mixture of ethyl 2-benzoyl-4-benzyloxy-5-methoxy-benzoate (reference example 11-1) (947 mg), a 2 mol/L aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (3.64 mL) and ethanol (12 mL) was stirred at 70° C. for 3 hours. Ethyl acetate and 2 mol/L hydrochloric acid were added to the mixture. The separated organic layer was washed with water and brine successively, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (0.87 g).
