Procedure

Boron tribromide (1.30 ml) was added dropwise to a cooled (0° C.) solution of 1-acetyl-6-methoxy-4-phenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline (0.9 g) in dichloromethane (75 ml). After stirring for 18 h, the reaction mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water, 5% aq. NaHCO3 and water, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo.
