Procedure
An oven-dried round-bottom flask was cooled under N2 (g) and then charged with 3-ethynyl pyridine (104 mg, 1 mmol), toluene (4 mL), and 4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolane (0.73 mL, 5 mmol). The mixture was purged with argon for 15 min HRuCl(CO)(PPh3)3 (73 mg, 0.05 mmol) was then added and the reaction heated to 50° C. for 18 h. The reaction was quenched with NaHCO3 (sat.) (10 mL), extracted with EtOAc, and the organic layer washed with brine (10 mL) and then dried over MgSO4. The solvent was removed and the resulting residue purified by column chromatography (silica gel, Hexanes/EtOAc, 1:1) to give the title compound as a white solid (115 mg, 50%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.69 (s, 1H) 8.52 (d, 1H, J=4.8 Hz), 7.81 (d, 1H, J=7.8 Hz), 7.38 (d, J=18.6 Hz, 1H), 7.28-7.26 (m, 1H), 6.26 (d, 1H, J=18.5 Hz), 1.33 (s, 12H).
