Reaction Steps

To a solution of 3-(4,5-difluoro-2-hydroxyphenyl)-1-(diphenylmethyl)-3-hydroxy-1,3-dihydro-2H-indol-2-one (11.72 g, 26.4 mmol) in trifluoroacetic acid (60 mL) under nitrogen was added triethylsilane (10.55 mL, 66.0 mmol), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 16 h. Following concentration in vacuo, the residue was purified by column chromatography (30% ethyl acetate in hexanes). Precipitation from diethyl ether/hexanes followed by filtration yielded 3-(4,5-difluoro-2-hydroxyphenyl)-1-(diphenylmethyl)-1,3-dihydro-2H-indol-2-one (6.29 g, 56%) as a colorless solid: 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 9.27 (br s, 1H), 7.37-7.12 (m, 12H), 6.94 (s, 1H), 6.87 (dd, J=11.3, 7.1 Hz, 1H), 6.76 (dd, J=11.2, 8.9 Hz, 1H), 6.58-6.56 (m, 1H), 5.12 (s, 1H); MS (ES+) m/z 428.2 (M+1).
