To a solution of tert-butyl 3-[2-(2′-oxospiro[furo[2,3-f][1,3]benzodioxole-7,3′-indol]-1′(2′H)-yl)ethyl]piperidine-1-carboxylate (1.48 g, 3.0 mmol) in dichloromethane (20 mL) was added trifluoroacetic acid (4 mL) at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 h and concentrated in vacuo to dryness. The residue was diluted in dichloromethane (100 mL) and washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution (2×30 mL), water (30 mL), and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to dryness to give 3-[2-(2′-oxospiro[furo[2,3-f][1,3]benzodioxole-7,3′-indol]-1′(2′H)-yl)ethyl]piperidine (0.72 g, 60%): MS (ES+) m/z 393.4 (M+1).
