To a stirred solution of 4-bromo-3-hydroxy-3-(7-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-6-yl)-1-methyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-indol-2-one (61.0 g; 155 mmol) and triethylsilane (75.0 mL, 456 mmol) in dichloromethane (300 mL) was added trifluoroacetic acid (48 mL, 623 mmol) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 20 h and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was triturated in methanol and washed with diethyl ether to afford 4-bromo-3-(7-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-6-yl)-1-methyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-indol-2-one (57.0 g, 97%): 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) 7.31-7.17 (m, 3H), 6.87-6.83 (m, 1H), 6.62 (s, 1H), 6.17 (s, 1H), 4.97 (s, 1H), 4.22-4.08 (m, 4H), 3.18 (s, 3H); MS (ES+) m/z 376.1 (M+1), 378.1 (M+1).
