To a solution of (4-benzyloxy-6-chloro-naphthalen-2-yl)-acetic acid methyl ester (340 mg, 1.0 mmol, prepared using a method analogous to the one described above for the preparation of 4-benzyloxy-6-fluoro-naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester, 1st-7th step for example 1-1) in methanol was added 10% palladium on carbon (10 mg). The resulting mixture was vigorously stirred at room temperature overnight under a hydrogen atmosphere (balloon) and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give (4-hydroxy-naphthalen-2-yl)-acetic acid methyl ester (200 mg, 92.6%) as a white solid.
