Procedure
To a solution of ethyl (4-{(1E)-3-[5-(diphenylmethyl)-2-oxo-1(2H)-pyridinyl]-1-propen-1-yl}-1H-indol-1-yl)acetate (70 mg) in MeOH (1.5 mL) was added 1M NaOH aqueous solution (0.2 mL) at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 5 hours. The reaction was quenched with 1M HCl aqueous solution (0.2 mL). The mixture was extracted with EtOAc and washed successively with water and brine. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (chloroform:MeOH=100:0-97:3) to give (4-{(1E)-3-[5-(diphenylmethyl)-2-oxo-1(2H)-pyridinyl]-1-propen-1-yl}-1H-indol-1-yl)acetic acid.
