Reaction Steps
2-Methoxy-N-methyl-5-nitroaniline (D85) (0.68 g, 3.7 mmole) and triethylamine (0.68 ml, 4.9 mmole) were stirred in chloroform (10 ml) as chloroacetyl chloride (0.39 ml, 4.9 mmole) was added. The solution was stirred for 30 min, acidified with 2M HCl, and separated. The organic portion was dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated in vacuo to give the crude title compound as a black solid (1.01 g, quantitative).
