Reaction Steps
To a solution of 42 (7.35 g, 19.1 mmol) in methanol (100 mL) was added K2CO3 (2.64 g, 19.1 mmol). After 2h, 200 mL of 2M HCl was added, the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×100 mL), and the combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to afford crude diol 43 (5.53 g), which was used in the next step without purification.
