Procedure

Under ice cooling, 20.9 g of anhydrous aluminum chloride was added to 200 ml of a dichloroethane solution containing 10.0 g of [4-(acetylamino)butyl]benzene and 9.96 g of 2-chloropropionyl chloride, and the mixture was stirred at 5° C. for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was poured into ice water, and the organic layer was collected by separation. After the organic layer was washed with water and dried, the solvent was removed to obtain 13.71 g of 4-[4-(acetylamino)butyl]-1-(2-chloropropionyl)benzene.
