In analogy with Example 1i), 0.50 g of 5(S)-[1(S)-(Boc-amino)-2-phenylethyl]-3(R)-[(p-cyanophenyl)methyl]dihydrofuran-2-(3H)-one in 19 ml of dimethoxyethane and 10 ml of water is hydrolysed with 4.8 ml of a 1M lithium hydroxide solution to form the title compound: TLC Rf (B)=0.3.
