Reaction Steps

1.3 ml (10.4 mmol) of oxalyl chloride were dissolved in 60 ml of CH2 Cl2. The solution was cooled at -10° C. and 3.0 g (14.4 mmol) of 2-(4-pyridyl)quinoline-4-carboxylic acid hydrochloride were added portionwise. The reaction mixture was left 72 hours at room temperature and then evaporated to dryness to yield 4.0 g of the title compound, used without further purification.
