Procedure

Methyl 2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzoate was prepared from 2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzoic acid by the process described in Example 6 for the synthesis of methyl 4-(3-(2-benzyloxy-5-hydroxyphenyl)propyl]-benzoate.
