Methyl 4-[2-(2-benzyloxyphenyl)ethyl]-2-hydroxybenzoate was prepared from a Z/E mixture of methyl 4-[2-(2-benzyloxyphenyl)-ethenyl]-2-hydroxybenzoate (prepared as described in Example 10) using the hydrogenation method described in Example 10 for the synthesis of methyl 4-[2-(2-benzyloxyphenyl)ethyl]-3-aminobenzoate.
