Methyl 4-[2-(2-benzyloxyphenyl)ethyl]-2-methoxybenzoate was prepared from methyl 4-[2-(2-benzyloxyphenyl)ethyl]-2-hydroxybenzoate (prepared as described in Example 14) using the method described in Example 14 for the preparation of methyl 4-[2-(2-benzyloxyphenyl)-(E)-ethenyl]-2-methoxybenzoate.
