Methyl 4-[2-(2-benzyloxypyrid-3-yl)ethyl]benzoate was dissolved in EtOH (5 ml) and treated with NaOH (1N, 1.04 ml). The reaction was stirred at ambient temperature for 48 hours, 1N HCL (1.04 ml) was added and the precipitate was filtered and recrystllised from iso-propanol to give 4-[2-(2-benzyloxypyrid-3-yl)ethyl]benzoic acid as a white solid (0.054 g, 38%).
