Reaction equation
[NH2:1][C:2]1[C:7]([OH:8])=[C:6]([F:9])[CH:5]=[CH:4][N:3]=1.[Br:10]Br>>[NH2:1][C:2]1[C:7]([OH:8])=[C:6]([F:9])[C:5]([Br:10])=[CH:4][N:3]=1Participants

Procedure
The 2-amino-4-fluoro-3-pyridinol from Example 2 and bromine in a molar ratio of 1:1 are heated in the vapor phase at 300° according to the procedure of McElvain and Goese [J. Am. Chem. Soc., 65, 2227 (1943)] to give 2-amino-5-bromo-4-fluoro-3-pyridinol. The latter with an equivalent amount of cesium fluoride by the procedure of Example 2gives 2-amino-4,5-difluoro-3-pyridinol.
