To 72.0 g of sodium borohydride in 1.5 l. of methanol, with ice cooling, is added 16.30 g of p-amino-cinnamic acid in 500 ml of methanol, maintaining the temperature between 10° -15° C. Subsequent to the addition, the mixture is stirred for four hours at room temperature and then worked up to give p-aminocinnamyl alcohol.
