Reaction Steps
To a suspension of 21.4 g (0.1 mole) of 2-acetoxy-5-chlorobenzoic acid in 100 ml of refluxing benzene is added in portions over 1 hour 20.8 g (0.1 mole) of phosphorous pentachloride. The clear solution is refluxed for 1 hour, then concentrated to dryness. The residue is distilled, bp 112° C at 0.1 mm to give a clear oil which solidified on standing, mp 35°-8° C. ##STR6##
