Reaction Steps
A mixture of 3.2 g. (9.2 mmol.) of 5-chloro-3-(4-hydroxybenzoyl)-2-phenylbenzofuran, 3.5 ml. (0.035 mol.) of 1,3-dibromopropane and 4.0 g. (0.029 mol.) of potassium carbonate in 100 ml. of acetone is refluxed for three hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture is filtered and the filtrate is concentrated to give 5-chloro-3-[4-(3-bromopropoxy)benzoyl]-2-phenylbenzofuran.
